Pools & Swim FAQs

The temperatures of our lap pools are 80 degrees Fahrenheit and 26.7 degrees Celsius.

Lap lane reservations are only required at the following club locations: Sky (Manhattan), Midtown, Annapolis and Canton Township. Please note these are subject to change.

You can make your lap lane reservations in the Life Time app.

All Life Time pools utilize chlorine for sanitation purposes. This is to ensure we are meeting and exceeding health and cleanliness standards across the aquatics industry. This includes locations with saline pools (St Louis Park, Kingwood and White Bear Lake). In all scenarios, we aim to use the smallest amount of chlorine necessary to provide the highest quality safety standards.

Access to our array of features and amenities (including our pools) is included in our memberships. We do not offer a pool-only membership.

The temperatures of our leisure pools are 88 degrees Fahrenheit and 31.1 degrees Celsius.

Lap swimming times and offerings vary by club, which also makes high traffic times variable by club. Please check with your club for the best idea when lap swimming times are more populated for your location.

Equipment varies by location, however many clubs do offer swim gear such as kickboards and pull bouys

Per ADA guidelines, we provide Hoyer/chair lifts in fixed locations for all pools. Additionally, our leisure pools have a zero-depth entry for ease of access.

Presence of starting blocks varies by location. Select clubs that meet pool-depth requirements for starting blocks will have them.

Our Lap Pools range between 20-25 meters in length depending on the club location.

Pool depths vary by location. Most pools are a maximum of 4 – 6 feet deep; however, select locations have deeper pools. Select locations will also feature zero-depth entry for our leisure pools.

Proper swim attire is required in the pools and/or whirlpools. Proper swim attire includes: Swim/Surf Shirt, 2 piece bathing suit, 2 piece tankini, 1 piece bathing suit, swim trunks, short or long swim briefs.

If a child age 12 and under has passed our 25:10 swim test, their parent does not need to be in the water with them during Family Swim. The parent simply needs to remain in the pool area with their child.

An adult must accompany children ages 12-15 when lifeguards are not on duty.

In Minnesota, children ages 12-17 may swim only when a lifeguard is on duty.

In Pennsylvania, an adult must accompany children under the age of 16 when lifeguards are not on duty.

In New Jersey, children under 12 may only swim during Open or Family Swim hours and children 12-15 may only swim when a lifeguard is on duty.

Life Time's outdoor pools are also heated, but temperature ranges are weather-dependent.

Lap swimming in our outdoor lap pools are available for adults, dependent on pool scheduling and weather. Please reference your club's schedule to find when the outdoor lap lanes are available.

Yes we have fresh towels available for members to utilize located in our Men’s, Women’s, and Family locker rooms as well as on our pool decks.

Yes, we offer an array of swim options for adults including private lessons, semi-private lessons, group lessons, and Master “Tri” Swim.

Adult Swimming at Life Time

Yes, we offer a Masters 'Tri' Swim program for members looking to improve their technique, strengthen their stroke, get in a great workout, or hit their best Tri time!

Masters 'Tri' Swim meets once a week for an hour at a time, led by our highly trained coaches.

The cost for Masters Swim is club dependent. To learn more about pricing please connect with the concierge at the front desk.

All swim levels welcome, and full-body water submergence is not required.

We offer low-impact cardio water workouts designed to build strength, cardiovascular endurance, while improving balance and flexibility.

An active club-accessing Life Time junior membership is required for kids’ swim lessons. Additionally, a junior membership can only be generated by adding onto an adult membership (adult must be their legal guardian or grandparent).

Your child will be assessed by our 25:10 swim test to determine your child’s swimming ability. The 25:10 rule states that if a child is unable to swim 25 meters continuously (no stopping) and unassisted, then a parent needs to remain in the water with them within 10 feet of the child. If they can successfully complete the test, the child will be given a yellow wristband for each Family Swim session and the parent just needs to remain present in the pool area but doesn’t have to be in the water.

For members enrolling multiple children in swim lessons, all children after the first child enrolled will receive a 25% discount on the lesson cost.

Please note: a parent, legal guardian or sponsoring member must be in the same body of water as the child at all times. If a child cannot swim 25 meters continuously, an adult must be within 10 feet of the child in the water and actively watching at all times. Lifeguards are on duty in most states, where required.

Most kids swim lessons take place within our indoor pools. However, lessons may be held in the outdoor pool in certain locations (weather dependent).

The minimum height requirements for our slides is 42 inches. Additionally, children must be able to complete the 25:10 swim test before riding the slides.
